At BfR consumer health protection is in good hands

13/2010, 25.08.2010

BfR certified in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001: 2008

The Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) is the first federal authority to introduce a quality management system (QM system) for all its work areas that has been audited by TÜV Nord and certified in accordance with ISO 9001. The Vice-President of BfR, Professor Dr. Reiner Wittkowski, was presented with the certificate today by TÜV Nord Board Member Volker Klosowski. "The certification guarantees ongoing, transparent quality optimisation and underpins the fact that consumer health protection is in good hands at BfR", commented Wittkowski during the presentation. With the QM system BfR documents the fact that it complies with national and international statutory provisions, has the necessary expertise for the tasks assigned to it and upholds high scientific standards.

The basis for the certification was a three-day audit conducted by TÜV Nord during which BfR presented the organisation, implementation and documentation of its work processes. The auditors had an opportunity to establish that all work processes within BfR are transparent and intelligible for all staff members. All employees from the specialist clerks for office communication over the scientific staff in the laboratories, from the animal keeper down to the President actively subscribe to the QM system.

As its laboratories are already accredited in accordance with DIN ISO/IEC 17025, BfR is the first federal authority to be certified in accordance with ISO for all its work areas from the laboratories right through to its administration. With the certificate based on DIN EN ISO 9001:2008 the Institute can not only maintain its international position thanks to its very high scientific quality standards but also document the fact that the pan-social task of consumer health protection is in the best hands here. BfR has published more comprehensive information about its QM system on its website.
