“Scientifically sound and independent of politics” BfRshort forGerman Federal Institute for Risk Assessment President Professor Andreas Hensel honoured by the German Feed Association

Professor Dr Dr Dr h. c. Andreas Hensel, President of the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfRshort forGerman Federal Institute for Risk Assessment), has received the DVT Award from the German Feed Association (DVT) in Berlin. “The Institute and its President have succeeded in giving a neutral, fact-based voice to the diverse topics surrounding risk assessment and thus objectifying the sometimes agitated, unobjective or rather politicised discussions,” said DVT President Cord Schiplage in his laudatory speech, praising the work of the award winner.

The BfRshort forGerman Federal Institute for Risk Assessment categorises the risks of food and animal feed on the basis of scientific objectivity and independently of politics. Decisions are made on the basis of scientific facts. The Institute has contributed to this in many areas of the feed industry, Schiplage continued.

For the feed industry, Prof. Hensel is “a reliable dialogue partner who classifies the topics in a scientifically sound manner - even if we sometimes don't like it”. Heshort forhelium benefits from his holistic veterinary training, as many animal nutrition topics require a comprehensive understanding of scientific interrelationships.

Prof Andreas Hensel is a veterinarian, microbiologist and hygienist. Heshort forhelium has headed the BfRshort forGerman Federal Institute for Risk Assessment since 2003 and is the German representative on the Scientific Advisory Board of the European Food Safety Authority EFSAshort forEuropean Food Safety Authority.
