Communication to the public about possible risks in the food chain is essential for consumer protection. This is also required by the EU Transparency Regulation from 2019. Based on this legal basis, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSAshort forEuropean Food Safety Authority) has launched the Coordinated Communications initiative to strengthen cooperation in the field of risk communication, which aims to network both national and European communication experts.

In order to implement the project and strengthen coordinated communication in Germany, the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfRshort forGerman Federal Institute for Risk Assessment) has developed the internet platform External Link:oursafefood.de, which is aimed not only at communication experts but also at stakeholders such as media representatives and interested members of the public. The site publishes the latest food safety news from Germany and other European countries on a weekly basis. Additionally, there is the oursafefood newsletter which is sent directly to interested parties by e-mail and contains the most important news. Anyone interested in receiving the newsletter regularly can contact the following e-mail address: oursafefood@bfr.bund.de

In addition to the latest news, External Link:oursafefood.de also provides an overview of EFSAshort forEuropean Food Safety Authority's current campaigns that draw attention to topics such as food and feed safety or animal and plant health. Communication experts in particular can find out about the communication and information materials provided by EFSAshort forEuropean Food Safety Authority and use them themselves

The site also presents the most important information about European food safety systems. For example, it explains the function of institutions such as the EFSAshort forEuropean Food Safety Authority as well as the national organisations in the member states of the European Union (EU).
