The ratio of a suitable reference value from the dose-response
relationship relative to the estimated exposureExposureTo glossary to the substance in
humans. The reference value applied here is usually the NOAEL or
the BMDL5/10. One example of the use of a MOSshort forMargin of Safety is to assess the
health risk that can be expected from an exposure to substances for
which no health-based guidance value (ADIshort forAcceptable Daily Intake or TDIshort forTolerable Daily Intake) can be derived.
In addition, an MOSshort forMargin of Safety can be applied to assess the health risk that is
associated with the exceedance of a health-based guidance value
(such as the ADIshort forAcceptable Daily Intake or TDIshort forTolerable Daily Intake).
