Project description
In the project “Vet-Twin” which is co-funded by the European Commission (Horizon 2020), the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) and the Danish Technical University (DTU) will provide scientific and technical support for the National Veterinary Research Institute (NVRI) in Pulawy, Poland. The main objective is to strengthen the scientific excellence of the NVRI in the fields of animal health and food safety. For this purpose, special training courses will be conducted for Polish guest scientists at the BfR and DTU and workshops for senior and junior scientists are planned at the NVRI. These activities shall finally empty into a closer scientific cooperation between NVRI, DTU and BfR and initiation of common research projects in the future.
In this context, the DTU will focus on animal health topics such as, models for investigation on host-pathogen interaction, immunology, molecular epidemiology, whole genome sequencing and metagenomic analysis. Conversely, the BfR will be responsible for the food safety topics such as risk assessment on foodborne pathogens, usage of quantitative data for modelling tools and predictive microbiology, monitoring on zoonoses and investigation of foodborne outbreaks.
