Description and Objective

The "European Partnership for the Assessment of Risks from Chemicals" (PARC) will promote European cooperation, advance research and expand knowledge in the field of chemical risk assessment and provide the relevant expertise. The results of PARC will help to develop national and European strategies to reduce health and environmental risks of hazardous chemical substances. They will also help to reduce animal testing and to introduce next generation risk assessment strategies. PARC intends the setup of national expert panels, so-called National Hubs (NHs), which, in addition to the partners, will contribute additional scientific expertise in the field of research and risk assessment of chemicals. In addition, the NH is up to enable the networking of German stakeholders and decision-makers from the various research communities in order to discuss results from PARC and bring further needs, knowledge and expertise into the partnership. Another central goal of the NH work is to inform the (expert) public about the results of PARC and to prepare these results target-group-specifically. Each participating country in PARC is called up to establish a National Hub Contact Point (NHCP). The German Federal Institute (BfRshort forGerman Federal Institute for Risk Assessment) and the German Environment Agency (UBAshort forGerman Environment Agency) will perform this NHCP function jointly. Hence, the aim of this project is the establishment, coordination and management of the German NHCP. The joint performance of the NHCP function by BfRshort forGerman Federal Institute for Risk Assessment and UBAshort forGerman Environment Agency creates a "bridge" between the research communities from the fields of human and environmental toxicology and thus helps to create synergies and to further improve the protection of humans and the environment. In addition, the gained scientific knowledge and a jointly established communication concept are intended to build up the base for the design of scientific risk assessment of chemicals in the future.
