Project description:

Pesticide residues levels strongly depend on the processing of food prior to consumption. This effect can be accounted for by integrating processing factors in the exposure assessments. EFSA therefore initiated in 2016, together with a consortium led by BfR, a pilot project compiling processing factors at EU level (see BfR-SiP-08-1341-101). This project resulted in the delivery of the first EU database of processing factors in 2018, supported by a compendium of representative processing techniques and a mapping of processed commodities to the FoodEx2 classification system. However, the number of processing factors available in the database is still very limited.

The main objective under this follow-up project therefore is to update and extend the EU database of processing factors. While it currently contains processing information from all studies which have been evaluated in any regulatory EU procedure for pesticides until June 2016 (where the data compilation of the previous project ended), BfR has collected a number of additional data from national authorization procedures of pesticides. This data will be re-evaluated according to the state-of-the-art and incorporated into the EU database. Furthermore, the database will be updated by including all processing studies evaluated in regulatory procedures on EU level after June 2016.
