Grant number: GP/EFSA/PREV/2022/02

Project description:

The aim of the EFSA network project is to assess new available evidence on non-dietary exposure to plant protection products (PPPs) for the next update of the Guidance on the assessment of exposure of operators, workers, residents and bystanders in the risk assessment of plant protection products (OPEX) and the associated OPEX calculator (EFSA, 2022; https://doi.org/10.2903/j.efsa.2022.7032).

The project is divided into three work packages (WP):

1. SeedTropex (exposure model for seed treatment and seed application)

2. exposure of residents and bystanders

3. exposure of workers, DFR (Dislodgeable Foliar Residue), DT50 (time required for the concentration to decline to half of the initial value)

The following activities are required for each WP:

1. collection of data: Exposure data submitted to EFSA and data identified in a systematic literature search are collected and compiled in an agreed review template.

2. analysis of the data: Evaluation of the data according to the quality criteria developed with EFSA; the expected results are new and updated parameters as well as the development and validation of additional/revised models

3. Reporting of the analysis: the results of the data collection, selection and analysis will be presented in three interim reports and a draft and final evidence assessment report.

The work will be shared among a consortium consisting of the French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety (ANSES), the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR), the Benaki Phytophatological Institute (BPI), the University of Milan and the University of Turin.
