The project "A risk for the environment, humans and animals? How the people of Germany and Italy view microplastics" comes from our department "Risk Communication". Here we are doing research on people's perceptions on the topic of microplastics. Microplastics can accumulate in the environment and be ingested by humans through the food chain but also via cosmetics, textiles or dust in the air. The BfR is doing research on whether this uptake poses a health risk. The social science perspective on the topic gives us insights into people's risk perceptions. The study results will be used to better inform people about health risks of microplastics.
