Freedom of Information Act (IFG)

The Freedom of Information Act (IFG) entered into force on 1 January 2006. The Act lays down the rights of the individual concerning access to official information vis a vis the public agencies of the Federal Government.

Pursuant to § 7 IFG each public agency is obliged to give general access to its organisation and filing plan and to provide suitable directories containing information on what official, non-confidential information is available to the public agency.

The German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment publishes here (in german language):

  • the alphabetical filing plan
  • a list of abbreviations on the filing plan
  • the text of IFG
