Our institute policy combines quality policy (according to DIN EN ISO 9001) and environmental policy (according to EMAS) into a guiding principle.
Our mission is to protect human health.
Through our independent scientific assessment, research and transparent communication of health risks, we contribute impartially to the safety of food, feed, products and chemicals.
The results of our work promote objective and scientific discourse. They thus provide decision-makers with a reliable basis for their decisions.
We – the BfRshort forGerman Federal Institute for Risk Assessment as a whole as well as we individually – assume and carry the weight of responsibility for our work. We therefore make the highest demands on our own performance. We use the resources made available to us responsibly.
Our behaviour is attentive and reflective. Tolerance, reliability and mutual respect are our common principles.
We conduct research and provide advice in order to limit animal testing to what is absolutely necessary and to ensure the best possible protection for laboratory animals.
To increase the efficiency of our processes, we have consolidated our quality and environmental management systems and regularly review our success through joint internal, external and environmental audits. Our processes are subject to continuous improvement.
With the practical implementation of the environmental management system, we intensify our contribution to environmental protection, aiming to further develop our environmental performance in a sustainable manner and achieve greenhouse gas neutrality, committing ourselves to avoiding and reducing environmental pollution and complying with applicable environmental legal requirements. This is our contribution and an expression of our responsibility to protect life and the environment. By publishing our environmental goals in our environmental statement, we create the necessary transparency for this.
We are motivated to keep greenhouse gas emissions as low as possible in all our activities. We work daily to reduce our CO2 emissions through climate-friendly travel, energy conservation and sustainable procurement and disposal. We take sustainability and preserving our resources into account in planning our work. We ensure this on the basis of economic and legal requirements in all operating conditions through optimal process design and through the use of environmentally friendly technology. With this in mind, we promote the necessary environmental awareness among all colleagues, suppliers and affected persons, involve them in our activities and accept our binding obligations towards interested parties in this regard.
