BfR Committee for Pharmacologically Active Substances and Veterinary Medicinal Products

The BfR Committee for Pharmacologically Active Substances and Veterinary Medicinal Products supports BfR in the assessment of pharmacologically active substances and veterinary medicinal products. The scientific expertise of the Committee members bundles the expert knowledge available in Germany.

Tasks of the BfR Committee

The tasks of the Committee include supporting BfR in carrying out expert evaluations of scientific work as well as preparing and publishing scientific opinions intended for the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) and international bodies (e.g. CODEX, EFSA).

In crises the Committee advises BfR on critical issues like, for example, the exceeding of maximum levels of approved veterinary medicinal products and unauthorised pharmacologically active substances in imported fish and meat products.

The Committee also supports BfR in scientifically assessing the findings of the National Residue Control Plan.

Members of the BfR Committee

Experts from universities, Land authorities and industry were appointed as members of the BfR Committee for Pharmacologically Active Substances and Veterinary Medicinal Products.
