Scientific Advisory Board

The Scientific Advisory Board of the BfR set up in 2005 has now been newly appointed for the third time. In line with the recommendations of the German Science Council, the make-up of the board is now more international. The number of members has been increased to 15.

In total, 15 scientists from various universities and non-university research establishments now advise the BfR. They mainly come from the fields of food chemistry and technology, food safety, food hygiene and toxicology. The disciplines of psychology, philosophy and education research are also represented. All board members act on an honorary basis. They are appointed for a period of four years, and two further terms of office are admissible. The third-time appointments were made in August 2013.

Duties

The Scientific Advisory Board advises the institute on the definition of its core fields of research to help it perform its research remit and on all scientific questions of risk assessment and risk communication. It also facilitates contacts and cooperation between the BfR and other research establishments in Germany and abroad, advises the institute on appointments to the BfR committees and supports the BfR in specialist issues relating to its communication with the relevant supervisory ministries.
