A different kind of lesson: consumer health protection at the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment - for young people

To mark its 20^th anniversary, the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment invites students to Berlin-Marienfeld for the 3^rd BfR Schools at University on October 7, 2022

What is the difference between a hazard and a risk? What health risks do tattoos pose? Moreover, how is the intelligence of mice measured? Answers to these questions will be provided to students from the 10^th grade onwards at the 3^rd BfR Schools at University on October 7, 2022 in Berlin-Marienfelde. Exciting lectures will provide an insight into consumer health protection. The programme includes not only listening, but also participating in the discussions.  Students can ask questions - and BfR President Professor Dr. Dr. Andreas Hensel and BfR Vice President Professor Dr. Tanja Schwerdtle will answer them. "Whether it's about microplastics, e-cigarettes or the advantages and disadvantages of a vegan diet - the BfR’s work is diverse," says Professor Dr. Dr. Andreas Hensel. "We will be happy to answer any questions and look forward to raising awareness and interest in consumer health protection among young people."

Consumer health protection in practice: the 3^rd BfR Schools at University offers students the opportunity to learn more about the institute and its research. In informative and entertaining lectures, BfR scientists present examples of health risks, which can be encountered in everyday life.

The 3^rd BfR Schools at University will take place in the lecture hall at the BfR site in Berlin-Marienfelde, Diedersdorfer Weg 1, from 9 am until 12:15 pm. Afterwards, there will be the opportunity to visit the BfR open day with various booths on topics such as the risks of tattoos, the effects of energy drinks on the body or the advantages and/or disadvantages of a vegan diet. Furthermore, interested students can get information and advice about career opportunities at BfR at a booth.

Students in 10^th grade and above can register by September 30, 2022 at akademie@bfr.bund.de. Participation is free of charge.
