Unit Steering of Procedures and Overall Assessment

The work of this Unit encompasses the overall evaluation of all individual assessments prepared by the scientific units and the co-ordination of the tasks of Department 6 on the health assessment of substances and preparations as well as co-ordinating co-operation with other departments, federal institutes, industry, national and international organisations and the competent ministries.

This co-ordination involves the scheduling of the health assessment of pesticides, biocide products, new and existing substances and other chemicals within the framework of the official tasks pursuant to the Plant Protection Act, Chemicals Act, Food and Feed Code, the Protection against Infection Act and the Fertiliser Act. It encompasses the

  • Initial administrative examination and IT registration of the process
  • Preliminary scientific examination
  • Scheduling and time management
  • Risk assessment research
  • Comparison and collection of assessment reports from the Units for a definitive health assessment
  • Organisation of conferrals on risk assessment
  • Preparation of notices and reports

As part of overall assessment the Unit participates in national and international bodies on the risk assessment of substances and preparations and on the further development of test methods and test/assessment strategies.

Furthermore, the Unit is responsible for the content of the official factual databases for pesticides and biocides, for new and existing substances and for the Department’s administration and document management databases.
