Unit Microbial Toxins

This Unit co-ordinates the assessment of microbiological risks within Department 4. It prepares assessments about various pathogen-food combinations, e.g. on the TSE problem but also on other issues. It co-ordinates co-operation between the various units inside and outside the Department. It is also responsible for identifying research tasks to be carried out by third parties.

The Unit is responsible for quality management for laboratory accreditation pursuant to ISO 17025 for the organisation Unit “Microbiology” and quality management pursuant to ISO 9001 for Department 4.

The tasks of the secretariat of the FAO/WHO Collaborating Centre for Training and Research for Food Hygiene and Zoonoses are undertaken here. To this end, it initiates and coordinates training and further training measures and co-ordinates and undertakes the scientific organisation of congresses, seminars and symposia. The WHO Newsletter is published every quarter.
