Unit International Chemicals Programmes

The Unit "Application Safety of Chemicals" assesses the health risks when handling chemical products for the public at large and during the transport of chemicals.

In this context it processes findings on the exposure scenarios and the situation-related effects of chemicals on the human organism.

Contrary to Departments 5 and 7, the Unit deals with those consumer products that are not covered by either the Food and Consumer Products Act or by other special regulations and are, therefore, generally speaking governed by chemicals legislation.

In the transport sector the Unit deals with all technical safety issues that crop up in conjunction with the transport of toxic and corrosive substances by land, sea and inland waterway.

Given the global interest in these tasks it has close work contacts to international bodies identified by government departments.
