Travelling to the BfR in Dahlem by long-distance and regional rail
Please note that for travel within Berlin you need to buy a ticket for the tariff “Berlin AB” which you can purchase and stamp at any S-Bahn (suburban railway) or U-Bahn (underground railway) station. The ticket is valid for your journey to your destination and can be used when switching from S/U Bahn to bus.
Arrival Berlin Central Station
- From here you can take all the S-Bahn trains (direction Friedrichstraße) to Friedrich-straße (one Station).
- From Friedrichstraße following the directions given for “Arrival Friedrichstraße railway station”.
The entire journey takes about 35 minutes.
Arrival railway station Friedrichsstraße
(This is where all the regional trains stop which operate on the axis Zoologischer Garten and Ostbahnhof)
- At railway station Friedrichstraße take the suburban railway line S1 (direction Potsdam/Wannsee).
- Get off at the stop Lichterfelde West.
- Exit the S-Bahn station on the left side.
- Carry on for a short distance along Knesebeckstraße.
- Turn left into Adolf-Martens-Straße and continue down this street until you come to the street “Unter den Eichen“.
- Cross over the street “Unter den Eichen“ and keep to the left.
- The second street on the right is Boetticherstraße.
- Turn onto this street and BfR is located a few metres further down on the left.
The whole journey takes about 30 minutes, including about 10 minutes on foot.
Arrival railway station Zoologischer Garten
- Take U-Bahn (underground) line 9 (direction Rathaus Steglitz) to Rathaus Steglitz. The entrance to the underground station is located opposite the entrance to the railway station “Zoologischer Garten“.
- At underground station U-Bahnhof Rathaus Steglitz follow the signs for bus M48 (direction Zehlendorf/Busseallee).
- Take bus M48 (direction Zehlendorf/Busseallee) and then get off at the bus stop “Unter den Eichen/Thielallee“
- Go back a few meters and turn left onto Thielallee.
- BfR is located about 100 m further down on the right side of the street.
The journey takes about 40 minutes.
Arrival long-distance railway station Ostbahnhof
- From here you can take all S-Bahn (suburban railway) lines (direction Zoologischer Garten) to Friedrichstraße.
- From Friedrichstraße take the S 1, as described for “Arrival railway station Friedrichstraße“ (direction Potsdam/Wannsee) to Lichterfelde West, from here it is about 10 minutes on foot to the Institute.
The entire journey takes about 50 minutes.
