Notifications of detergents and cleaning agents
Prior to placing their products on the market, manufacturers of detergents and cleaning agents are obliged to submit to BfR a data sheet specifying the ingredients of their products (§ 10 of the Detergents and Cleaning Agents Act). The notification of data under the Detergents and Cleaning Agents Act can only be submitted in electronic form using an XML data exchange format provided by BfR. Tools available for this purpose include the new data exchange format, XProductNotification with enhanced functionality and, as before, the existing XWRMG data exchange format.
Electronic product notifications
All product notifications can be submitted to BfR in electronic form.
For submitting an electronic notification, a BfR company code is required. The latter can be obtained from BfR on request in writing (email is also acceptable). A corresponding form is available for downloading in the Documents section at the bottom of this page. The data to be specified include:
- Company name
- Complete address, and
- Person to be contacted in cases of emergency
Electronic product notification using the XProductNotification exchange format
Notifiers may read out their data from an existing database and generate a notification file in the XProductNotification format, using their own software.
For companies unable to generate an XML file, BfR has developed electronic notification assistance in the form of an Excel file (defined columns) including a macro to generate the XML exchange format (XML file), and a user manual.

Since 2007, BfR has provided the XWRMG format exclusively designed for the notification of detergents and cleaning agents. Notifiers may read out their data from an existing database and generate a notification file in the XWRMG format, using their own software.
For companies unable to generate an XML file, BfR provides electronic notification assistance in the form of an Excel file (defined columns) including a macro to generate the XML file (WRMG_Notification_BfR.xls).
