International cooperation
In accordance with its statutory tasks, the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment cooperates with the services of the European Union, in particular the European Food Safety Authority and with other scientific bodies on the national and international levels.
The scientists in BfR make an active contribution to the work of a whole number of regional international organisations. There has been cooperation for more than 25 years with the World Health Organisation (WHO), the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), the International Programme for Chemical Safety (IPCS), the scientific bodies of OECD and the International Office of Vine and Wine (OIV). There are also work relations spanning many years with the departments of the European Commission.
In conjunction with the work of the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC), a whole number of internationally recognised scientists, in their capacity as advisors to the German delegation, channel the expertise of BfR into the work of CAC and its subordinate committees.
Furthermore, the scientists in BfR are involved in a number of international scientific bodies like the European Centre for Validation of Alternative Methods (ECVAM), the Interagency Coordinating Committee for the Validation of Alternative Methods (ICVAM) and in numerous working groups in the European SCOOP activities.
